Sildenafil

Sildenafil is a PDE5 inhibitor primarily indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) and symptoms of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), in research subjects. 

It functions by blocking the activity of phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) enzymes, an enzyme that blocks blood vessels. This enzyme does that by breaking down cGMP, a molecule that causes smooth muscles to relax.

One of the primary research focuses for Sildenafil is its role in relaxing blood vessels. As discovered to enhance blood flow to the penis, Tadalafil is believed to facilitate the achievement and maintenance of erections in subjects. For PAH, Sildenafil helps to relax the blood vessels in the lungs, reducing the workload on the heart and improving exercise capacity. [R] [R]
