Description

Ivermectin, 1000g

(Synonyms: 22,23-Dihydroavermectin B1, MK-933, Ivermectin)

Ivermectin (IVM), a semi-synthetic macrolide parasiticide, is renowned for its effectiveness in treating a variety of internal and external parasites, particularly nematodes and arthropods. This significant impact on parasitic diseases has garnered substantial recognition, culminating in Satoshi Omura and William C. Campbell being awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their pivotal contributions to the development of IVM. In recent years, research has revealed that IVM also exhibits promising antitumor properties. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of various cancer cells, including glioma, through multiple mechanisms. These include the selective targeting of tumor-specific proteins, the induction of programmed cell death (apoptosis), and the modulation of tumor-related signaling pathways. Consequently, IVM holds great potential as a novel anticancer drug. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the mechanisms that enable IVM to suppress glioma growth. Additionally, it will explore the challenges and future prospects associated with the use of IVM as a new therapeutic agent in cancer treatment. Ivermectin, an antiparasitic drug, was investigated for potential COVID-19 treatment due to early lab studies suggesting antiviral effects.
